The
Wealthy Street Sheiks have been tearin’ it up together
since 1971. Comprised of Jimmie Stagger and David “Doctor
Hamfat” Marin, their juke-joint-rib-shack-
street-corner
performances have rarely strayed very far from their muddy Delta
roots. Combine Hamfat’s country-blues style harmonica and
juke band washboard with Jimmie’s legendary guitar and
mandolin... stir in their unique vocal styling and you get: A
big greasy platter of down home fun!
The
Sheiks have represented Grand Rapids' Blues internationally in
Perugia, Italy by performing
13 shows in just 6 days time. They’ve
shared the stage with the likes of Kenny Neal, C.J. Chenier,
Billy Boy Arnold, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and a host of others
for nearly
40 years. Jimmie and Hammie have recently shared their commitment
to keeping Delta blues alive by presenting their live “Blues
In The Schools” programs to scores of schools and hundreds
of kids since 2005 under the sponsorship of the West Michigan
Blues Society. They've also been called upon each year to entertain
at
the Starr Commonwealth Annual Foster Parent Appreciation Awards.
So
if you ever wished those intimate good old “rent party,
anything-goes, after-hours blues” were still around,
look no further... it’s (still) the Wealthy Street Sheiks!
